I am aware that it is a difficult job collecting artifacts and properly displaying them. Some exhibits are very sparse, and look forlorn. If this is a Museum, there should be more information provided. Photos of lots of interesting looking houses, but nothing else. There is an entire wall of "Images of Hershey". There is a Church still standing in Hummelstown (Main Street) made of this brownstone.Īnother very interesting exhibit is about Major Dick Winters, who served in the 101st Airborne in World War II, and was one of the "Band of Brothers". The Hummelstown Brownstone Company began making these bricks in 1905. There are photos of magnificent buildings, all on the National Register of Historic Places. We had expected more, but, nevertheless, we really liked the "Brownstone" exhibit, about the Hummelstown quarry industry. We were surprised at the aloofness and dismissive attitude of the woman behind the counter. are always so nice and eager to share information at these (usually small) Museums. We love Historical Society exhibits, and so hurried over here this morning (9/25), after breakfast.
